Episode 21: Identify Yourself: Powerful New Rivals

  • Team 7 walks through the village, discussing the Chūnin Exams.

  • Naruto boasts, “Heh, I’ll blow everyone away and pass easy!”

  • Sakura scolds, “Don’t get cocky, Naruto!”

  • Sasuke smirks quietly, confident.

  • They suddenly bump into three older genin from the Leaf.

  • The leader, Kabuto, smiles politely.

  • Kabuto introduces himself, “Name’s Kabuto Yakushi. I’ve been through the Chūnin Exams seven times.”

  • Naruto gasps, “Seven times?!”

  • Sakura whispers nervously, “So he’s really experienced…”

  • Kabuto shows them his special info cards.

  • He explains, “I’ve gathered intel on every ninja participating.”

  • He reveals data on Gaara, Rock Lee, and others.

  • Naruto shouts excitedly, “Whoa! These guys sound tough! Bring it on!”

  • Suddenly, Rock Lee appears dramatically, dropping from above.

  • He points at Sasuke, “I challenge you! I must test my skills against the Uchiha!”

  • Naruto yells, “Hey, what about me?! Don’t ignore me!”

  • Sakura blushes when Lee bows to her, declaring, “You are an angel! Please be my girlfriend!”

  • Sakura shrieks, “No way!!”

  • Naruto laughs, rolling on the floor.

  • The mood changes when Lee activates his stance against Sasuke.

  • Sasuke narrows his eyes, “Fine. I’ll see what you’ve got.”

  • They clash — Sasuke tries to read Lee’s movements with his Sharingan.

  • But Lee is too fast, overwhelming him with taijutsu.

  • Naruto and Sakura stare in shock.

  • Sakura gasps, “Even Sasuke can’t keep up…!”

  • Lee prepares his finishing move, the Front Lotus.

  • He launches Sasuke into the air, wrapping his bandages around him.

  • Naruto shouts, “Sasuke!!”

  • But before Lee can complete the technique, a stern voice booms.

  • Guy-sensei appears with a dramatic pose.

  • He scolds loudly, “LEE! You mustn’t use forbidden techniques against your comrades!”

  • Lee cries, “Guy-sensei!!”

  • The two hug as sparkles fly, leaving everyone else speechless.

  • Sasuke lies battered but conscious, staring at Lee with respect and frustration.

  • He mutters, “…I need to get stronger.”

  • The episode ends with Team 7 entering the Chūnin Exam building, rivalries already heating up.
